Looking for some good slumber party scare games?

A really scary game for kids is “Light as a feather, stiff as a board.” I used to play this with my friends when I was younger, probably between fifth and eighth grade (after that we were only interested in children, of course!)

This game is similar to a Ouija board, and it can be just as scary! This is how “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board” works: a person lies on the floor, face up. Then all the other girls (this happens at a sleepover, preferably in a dark room!) Surround the person on the floor.

  • Each girl puts two fingers of each hand under the girl on the floor, as if they were going to lift her (of course they could never do it with just 2 fingers!)
  • Then everyone closes their eyes (including the girl on the floor) and concentrates on the lying girl being light as a feather but stiff as a board.
  • So everyone slowly, slowly begins to lift up, to lift the girl who is rigid as a board.

The effect is that everyone feels that they are not lifting anything (she really is light as a feather!), But that the girl is somehow mysteriously floating on her own!

(Look, it’s like when you play with a Ouija board and even though everyone has their hands on the cursor, no one thinks they are actually moving it!)

If everyone takes it seriously, it can scare everyone.

Then slowly, slowly, as you keep singing “light as a feather, stiff as a board,” lower the girl back to the ground. Everyone can take turns. Usually after you’ve had a turn to be lifted, you feel really dizzy and calm and maybe like you’ve had an out-of-body experience.

How about a weird sleepover! It will make everyone’s night.

Another good option for teenagers is to go to a cemetery (at night, obviously) and stick a knife in front of the head stone into the creepiest looking grave you can find.

Then lie in the grave with the knife still there.

The object of the game is to stay there for about five minutes and be able to stand up and honestly say that you didn’t feel a knot in your stomach.

I still haven’t been able to do it. It’s best to play this game when it’s a little cold outside because people are more nervous when it’s cold.

Another fun thing for teens to do is play with a Ouija board. It always gives a good scare.

Another great game for teens is the Bloody Mary game.

What you do is you

  • go to the bathroom,
  • Close the door,
  • And turn off the lights

You look at yourself in the bathroom mirror and say “Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary …”

You are supposed to see a woman who is wearing a white dress and is covered in blood.

If the bathroom is completely dark, I always like a sibling or parent to hide in the bathroom, I go out as quietly as possible when the lights are off and the door is closed, and when you’ve finished saying your Bloody Mary’s, the brother or father comes over and grabs someone’s arm! Make sure they have a firm grip. Not strong enough to hurt them, but strong enough that they can’t pull away.

You are guaranteed to scream. It is a wonder.

These games really only work with people who believe in ghosts and demons and things like that. But either way, they are a lot of fun.
