Become a better dancer with discipline

Discipline is a big part of every dancer’s success.. A dictionary definition states that discipline is ordered and prescribed conduct, or an ordered pattern of behavior. It is what is known as self-control. Most of the things we do require us to use self-control in our active and diligent participation. Work, school, and even recreational activities move forward when discipline comes into play. All the professional dancers in the world have adopted this tool.

Definitions are all very well, but what does it mean to be disciplined? It means showing up regularly. We’ve all heard the old adage that practice makes perfect. It wouldn’t be an old adage unless there’s some truth to it. Constantly working on one thing means improvement and growth will occur. Your dance will improve if you approach it in a disciplined way. Discipline is what drives us to be consistent.

Discipline requires developing an unwavering level of dedication. He allows no excuses (other than obvious things like vomit or fire) or fainting. In a way, discipline is the opposite of insanity: by doing the same things over and over again, you CAN expect different results.

Discipline is closely linked to intention. The intention sets the roadmap; discipline is what drives the bus. Setting intentions creates a concrete action plan. Discipline drives us to stick to the original intent and succeed.

Discipline is power. Dance and discipline go hand in hand; It is one of the main differences between success and failure. Make it yours and you will get where you want to go.
