UK Theme Parks – Legoland Windsor

Legoland Windsor theme park is an area of 150 acres and is located in Berkshire. The park first opened as a Lego theme park in 1996 and has 50 rides, of which 3 are roller coasters and 6 are water rides. The theme park is built on the former site of Windsor Safari Park. The only remnant of the safari park is the railway, now known as the Hill Train, which connects The Beginning with the Wild Woods.

Legoland Windsor has 10 theme areas that are primarily geared towards the 2-12 year old age range, but age groups are not excluded. In fact, the park has won numerous awards for its dedication to bringing fun and laughter to young children. These include the “UK’s Best Children’s Attraction” by Yandell Publishing and, more recently, “Best Family Visitor Attraction” by Tommy’s Parent Friendly Awards.

Legoland Windsor is the UK’s third most popular paid tourist attraction with 1.3 million visitors a year. One of the most popular places in the park is Miniland, an area that with the help of 40 million Lego blocks has recreated scenes from various cities in Europe.

The ten thematic areas of Legoland Windsor are: 1. The beginning; 2. Center of imagination; 3. Miniland; 4. Duplo Land; 5. Traffic; 6. LEGO City; 7. Land of the Vikings (new in 2007); 8. Wild Woods; 9. Kingdom of the Knights; 10. Land of adventure. The theme of the parks is Heroes Wanted.

Obviously the Legoland Windsor rides are not very extreme, although some of the younger children would not agree with this, for example the Jungle Coaster, which is the fastest ride in the whole park, reaching 60 km / h and with a drop of 16 meters. There are minimum heights in this park. Children shorter than 1.3m must be accompanied by an adult at some of the attractions.

As always in a theme park, there are many places to eat. Legoland Windsor is no different. There is a wide range of food options throughout the park and around the park there are carts and stands for people who want a quick snack. Some of the places to eat are: Cinnabon Bakery, Pitstop Cafe, Sweet Shop, Papa Moles Ice Cream and Coffee Shop, Pasta Patch, Fish and Chips, Baguette Bar, Burger Ranch, The Big Restaurant, Ice Cream and Donuts, Crossed Ribs BBQ , The Knights Table Steakhouse and the Jungle Cafe.

Among the Legoland Windsor gift shops, you will find the Lego Big Shop. This is the UK’s largest Lego store with the largest selection of Lego toys. Inside the store there is a life-size statue of Harry Potter and Haggrid and they are made entirely of Lego.

There is never a dull moment at Legoland Windsor. Throughout the season, there are fairy tale shows that will captivate the young and enchant the adults. At the Duplo Theater, the colorful fairy tales of Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk are performed. During peak season, a third show is The Princess and the Pea. Spellbreaker 4D is a new medieval adventure movie with stunning 3D special effects and fast-paced 4D physical effects that takes you straight to the heart of the adventure, where the hero rescues the princess and fights the evil wizard and his army of skeletons. There is a live action show: Johnny Thunder in the secret of the scorpion palace. Lots of high dives, fast-paced action sequences, and thrilling jet ski races around Lego City Harbor. Lots of audience participation.

All in all a wonderful day out for the youngest children and even with the height restrictions, which are very low anyway, there are plenty of attractions to suit even the youngest children. It’s refreshing to be able to take the little ones to a theme park without worrying that they won’t be able to go to the most popular attractions. Like I said, it is predominantly for the 2-12 year old age range. Details of prices and opening hours can be found at Legoland Windsor.
