The best holidays in Ireland

The Emerald Isle, as it is called, is the ideal getaway for many different types of people. Ireland is full of music, adventure, fun and romance. And it’s just a plane ride away!

After the tour, it is time to listen to live music, or as it is called in Ireland, “a session”. An Irish holiday is not complete without at least one session, preferably in a traditional Irish pub. The best thing about the sessions is that they are informal. It’s not like going to see a live band where they have a setlist, and the band plays that list and you watch. In one session, anyone who knows the song is encouraged to sing or play it. A dark song might see just a couple of old men playing, but when something popular like “Wild Rover” or “Dirty Old Town” starts, the whole pub will come together. It is the best part of most holidays in Ireland and I highly recommend it.

Holidays in Ireland can be anything you want. One that I would recommend up front is to stay in Dublin and just explore that great city. It is the former home of the Irish kings, having been established before the time of the Druids! Today it is buoyed by commerce and industry, as well as some of the best sports and music you’ll find anywhere in the world. But it hasn’t lost its distinctive Irish charm, part of what makes it such a wonderful experience. On the one hand it has a modern city with modern conveniences, but on the other it is an ancient city of ancient kings. What more could you want?

Of course, a staple of an Irish holiday is a visit to the famous Guinness Brewery, located in Dublin. Beer lovers around the world consider it a sacred sight, just like the Vatican City of beer! Many even say that the Guinness made there is somehow tastier than the same Guinness found in bars and pubs around the world. Sounds fishy to me, but remember: they give you a lot of free samples on the tour, so maybe some people’s judgment will be affected a bit.
