Sosúa nightlife in the Dominican Republic

The average traveler doesn’t know much about Sosúa’s nightlife. Most travelers heading to Sosua, Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic will likely end up at an all-inclusive resort and spend the week at their hotel sipping pina coladas.

And for a family heading to Sosua, that might be the best option. But if you are a solo traveler looking to experience some unique and exciting nightlife, I suggest spending a few nights on the town.

Sosua is a beautiful little beach town during the day. At night the lights go out, the bars open and the girls come in. Most of the girls you will find in Sosua will be “working girls”. But even if you decide not to partake in that experience, you can still have a good time drinking, flirting, and dancing the night away.

The small town is full of many small “chiringuitos”. Chiringuitos are basically small bars that have an open atmosphere. You can also head to any of these bars and have a Presidente for a few pesos and sit back and enjoy the view. Chances are you’ll be approached by a few groups of “working girls” over the course of the night, but you can always wave them off politely. However, you will most likely end up chatting with them, dancing with them, and having a good time. Although they are officially “working”, they are not strictly commercial. They are ordinary girls who are also looking to have fun.

If you prefer the club scene to the bar scene, then you won’t want to miss Club X. Club X billboards are all over Sosua. The club is medium in size. It is dark and usually crowded. It’s a great place to dance at night. The club is open until well after 4am for those of you who have the energy to go all night.

There is also a casino in Sosua that caters to an after hours crowd. The tables are not high stakes, so if you’re in the mood to try your luck at roulette or blackjack, it’s a good place to go and have a good time.

My recommendation for those of you going to Sosua is to rent a condo or villa instead of booking a week in a hotel. While a hotel may offer some nice luxuries, chances are you’ll end up missing out on Sosúa’s fantastic nightlife.
