Social Media Networks – Helping Build Your Business

If you’re in business for yourself as a business owner or self-employed independent contractor, then you know how important it is to be able to create new opportunities for your business. Simply put, more leads equals more customers. One of the best ways to attract highly targeted, qualified leads to your business is through social media.

Social media is huge on the internet right now. Sites like Facebook and YouTube are among the top three most visited sites on the Internet. Twitter is another social media network that is also huge right now. These sites allow people to connect with each other no matter where they are in the world and from any social background. People can share all kinds of things, from videos and images to stories and articles, and just have a general chat. The three main sites above have so many visitors each day that as a business person, they provide you with the ideal platform to help you promote your product or business.

The way you will succeed with social media is to target your relative audience first. You should be looking to add friends or follow people who are interested in what you do, for example if you are promoting a golf product you would be looking to network with people who like golf. At this point, it’s worth mentioning that you should probably set up separate accounts for business purposes if you already have personal accounts. You can do this by joining from another email address you have.

When you’re browsing online and on social media, you should be looking to engage as many people as possible who are interested in what you have to offer. You really should make an effort to start conversations with these people and get to know them.

Start adding value to the community and your network by sharing content that is really useful to these people. An example of sharing useful content might be a blog post you’ve viewed or created, a video, an article, or even a podcast. The content doesn’t even have to be yours, it could be someone else’s, as long as it helps people overcome any issues and helps them succeed. An example of this is if you were a golf teacher and you were networking with other people who were golfers. Could you share an article that you found helps people overcome first tee jitters, a common problem for golfers. Whatever it is, as long as it’s quality content that people find useful, they’ll remember you for it and be naturally drawn to you and want to know more about what you do.

This is where lead generation starts to kick in with social media because you’ve provided a lot of value to people and helped them in the past, they’ll naturally want to know more about you, their curiosity will get the better of them. That’s why you need to appear personable in your marketing so they aren’t afraid to send you a direct message or ask for your phone number. In my opinion, if you have a website and they can find your contact details in your profile, that will make their life much easier in terms of getting in touch with you.
