Jacksonville Jaguars ready for third AFC championship attempt

The Jacksonville Jaguars call ALLTEL Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida their home and every time players rush onto the field in their teal, black and gold uniforms, fans go wild. Florida fans are excited about their team and regardless of whether they support them with enthusiasm how many wins or losses are in the record books. Although Jacksonville was declared incapable of supporting a professional soccer team, fans have shown unwavering support and devotion from day one. The constant demand for Jacksonville Jaguars tickets is just one of the ways that fans can show the true depth of their commitment.

A fight at the beginning

In 1992, 5 cities were chosen as possible sites for new NFL franchises. Jacksonville was competing with Charlotte, NC, St. Louis, MO, Baltimore, MD, and Memphis, TN. Of all the potential winners, Jacksonville was the least likely in the eyes of almost everyone on the planet. Florida already had two other NFL teams and Florida’s powerful college teams were additional competition.

The poor television market in the Jacksonville area was small and did not have high ratings, which made one more black mark against the city in its search for a professional soccer team. There were also unprecedented issues over possible team ownership if the city were chosen. These issues nearly derailed the Jacksonville franchise train from the start. In the later stages of the deliberation, the city won its bid thanks in large part to supporters who bought 10,000 Jacksonville Jaguars season tickets in just 10 days.

Highlights to Remember

Although the team has never made the Big Game, it did make the AFC division championship playoffs. Between 1996 and 1999, tickets and merchandise sales for the Jacksonville Jaguars soared as the team gained victory after victory. Jacksonville accumulated a record 4 consecutive post-season in 4 years and played for the AFC title in 1996 and 1999. They also made football history as the first franchise to reach the playoffs 3 times in the first 4 years.

The 2008 Jacksonville Jaguars season

The 2008 season for the Jacksonville Jaguars was not the resounding success many fans had hoped for. After a great run in 2007 and a 14-2 regular season record, hopes were high for this team to repeat or exceed the achievements of the previous year. This was not the case, as the Jaguars faltered and finished 08 as a team that was spinning its wheels.

Jacksonville Jaguar tickets had been claimed earlier in the year as fans and some sports experts alike hoped that the Jacksonville franchise would take it all the way to the Big Game. The team failed to meet these lofty expectations and struggled to find victories along the way. Even the Cincinnati Bengals, who were struggling through their own 0-8 season, managed to pull off a 21-19 victory over the hapless Florida team.

Like many of Jacksonville’s other 2008 games, the team played hard, but “missed opportunities” made the difference between winning over losing. All of the losses the team experienced in 2008 must have been difficult to accept, but knowing that, once again, they were only inches away from putting the game on the win column had to be demoralizing. During the next game last season, Jacksonville was able to defend against the Detroit Lions with a “final seconds” field goal and score another victory, but the effort was too little, too late. The 2008 schedule ended for the Jacksonville Jaguars with the bitter realization that their 5-11 performance was one of the worst records in the short history of the franchise.

Jacksonville Jaguars ready for the fight in 2009

The year 2009 holds tremendous promise as injured players are ready to return and new names are added to the roster. Fight-ready fans are looking for available tickets to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 2008 season may not have been the big win that was expected, but you can believe that the Jacksonville Jaguars are eager to clear the air and savor victory once again. Being one of the teams vying for the AFC title will erase those lingering clouds of doubt that hang over Alltel Stadium.
