homeopathy and gout

This article will cover the condition of taste. Gout will be identified by listing its signs and symptoms and its etiology. Then, lifestyle recommendations will be offered to help combat the effects of gout. Finally, homeopathic remedies will be proposed, with their corresponding indications, which can help people with gout.

Gout is a form of arthritic inflammation deposits in which uric acid forms hard nodules in the tissues. This is the result of an overproduction of uric acid in the blood or a decrease in its excretion through urination. The most common site for gout is the first metatarsal of the big toe, but it can also affect joints in the feet, ankles, and knees.

Gout can be acute (affecting one joint) or chronic (prolonged recurrent episodes of pain and inflammation that may affect more than one joint). This condition occurs more in men than in women and generally appears after the age of 30. For women, gout appears more often after menopause. It is uncommon in children.

Gout is believed to be caused by an inherited failure to properly metabolize purine-containing foods. Purines are found in certain meats and meat products such as anchovies, sardines, liver, beef kidneys, meat extracts, herring, mackerel, scallops, game meats, and sauces made from them. Excessive weight gain can also contribute to taste susceptibility.

Since gout is a deficiency of uric acid metabolism, strict control of dietary habits is of paramount importance. In general, it is recommended to avoid foods high in fat (salad dressings, ice creams, and fried foods), follow a vegetarian diet, avoid alcohol, drink plenty of water (at least 8 glasses daily), and engage in healthy lifestyle habits of adequate nutrition for an optimal weight loss regimen (no more than 2 pounds of weight loss per week).

Signs and symptoms of gout include:

  • Excruciating pain (crushing, shooting, etc.) in the joints of the big toe, knees, feet and/or ankles.
  • The affected joint feels hot and appears red.
  • The pain gradually increases, peaking after a few hours, and then gradually subsides.
  • The pain may be accompanied by a low-grade fever, chills, headache, and/or nausea.
  • It usually occurs with dysfunctions related to the kidneys or kidney stones (kidney stones).

Homeopathy can be a long-term solution for people with gout. Homeopathic treatment is individualized based on each person’s unique expression of symptoms. In general, a homeopath views health as a condition of the whole individual and not as isolated symptoms from specific places on the body. That being said, a homeopath will seek to understand, in detail, her physical symptoms along with her mental/emotional character and disposition. Following such analysis, a homeopathic remedy will be selected that seeks to initiate your body’s inherent healing response. This healing response will work simultaneously on all levels of your being: mentally, emotionally, and physically. In this way, people who experience the taste can be helped by a homeopathic treatment.

Below is a short list of homeopathic remedies and their corresponding indications for people suffering from gout.

benzoic acid: Very useful for arthritis, gout and joint deformity. The person feels relief by expelling sediment through the urine. It especially affects the knees, ankles, toes and hands. Marked creaking of the joints on movement.

autumn crocus: This is one of the most important homeopathic remedies for people suffering from gout. The joint becomes hot, red, swollen, and exquisitely tender to touch or movement. Worse at night, due to the slightest movement and due to cold and humid weather.

ledum: Pain that improves due to cold (soaks, compresses, weather, etc.). Useful for acute taste of the knee or ankle. Worse at night in bed, and from the heat. Rising pains (affects toes first, then knees, then hips and hands).

Berberis: Gouty pain as if there were a nail in the ball of the foot when standing up. Gout that occurs in the knee, especially the left. Pain that arises when getting up from a seat.

caustic: Gout with a deformity of the toes. Calcification and advanced deterioration of the joints.

These are just a few of the many homeopathic remedies that can help people with gout. Please note that this list is not exhaustive. For best results, consult with a qualified homeopath.
