Buckle Up Buttercup – Don’t Let Daily Frustration Get In The Way Of Business Success

Have you ever noticed that some things are timeless? I have to admit that I am a dating addict. I’ve even gone so far as to place a quote widget on my internet home page. Woof.

I came across this question the other day while working on my home business. And it never ceases to amaze me how something will come at the right time to help you. He was having one of those moments when frustration had set in. I was yelling at my computer! I, who never scream, was screaming at something that, firstly, has no ears and, secondly, I don’t care. (I bet you’ve been to that place)

This quote is from a man named James Cash Penney, founder of JC Penney Stores. While you may not have heard of Mr. Penney, I know you have heard of JC Penney stores.

James Cash Penney started his dream of an empire in 1902. That was over 100 years ago, so keep that in mind when reading this quote. In 1924, Penney was making $ 1.5 million a year. I don’t know about you, but I have no idea what that would translate into earnings today. Then the stock market crashed and he was mired in financial ruin. But for Mr. Penney, this was only a temporary setback. He continued to rebuild his fortune.

Anyway, Mr. Penney had this advice:“Long-term goals keep you from being frustrated by short-term failures.” This is absolutely true advice.

In any initial endeavor, or even a successful one, there are limitless frustrations. It is important to write down what your long-term goals are for your business. As time passes, those long-term goals need to be analyzed and possibly restructured.

I know from experience that it is difficult to imagine what tomorrow will bring, much less five years from now. But it is with that long-term vision that you will lead to ultimate success. Everyday frustrations are just one roadblock to your success.

My personal quote is “Don’t lose sight of the award.” I have it posted in my office, so that when little frustrations and disappointments arise, I can look it up and read it. Help. (I’m still threatening to replace my laptop though .;)

I hope that if you are starting a new company, you will keep Mr. Penney’s advice first in your thoughts. And never, never give up.
