The study of history teaches us that, at one time or another, almost every nation faced crises and other threats, both internal and external. The state of this nation, today, is similar to how we face foreigners, external threats, from those, who seek to harm the United States and/or our way of life! Yet today, perhaps more than ever in recent memory, the greatest threat to this great country is from within! We live in troubling times where, to many, there seems to be some sort of concerted effort to do serious harm or change things, to benefit the few, at the expense of the many…too many! With that in mind, this article will briefly attempt to consider, examine, review, and discuss 6 potentially serious threats we continue to endure/confront, from the inside!
1. Conspiracy theories: We’ve had tabloids and other vehicles that, in the past, have, stretched-the-truthand created, what we, refer to, as, sensationalism! However, in recent times, we have witnessed many more conspiracy theories than ever before, in recent memory! Qanonand other well-known conspiracy theorists have made statements, which they, their followers, etc., continue to believe, in a number of statements, that appear to differ significantly from the actual facts/reality! We are all entitled to our own opinions, but not to our own set of facts!
two. The great lie: We have never witnessed such a concerted attempt to challenge the results of a presidential election! There are ways, one can, legally, officially, challenge the results, if they have cause, but, even after more than 60 court cases and numerous recounts, which affirmed that there were no significant irregularities, in that election, former President Trump and his main supporters continue to articulate the Big Lie, claiming that he won. When one loses the popular vote, by more than 7 million votes, and the Electoral College, by a significant margin, shouldn’t it be time to move on?
3. Polarization: Perhaps the biggest obstacle to getting the necessary things accomplished/accomplished in a well-considered manner is striving toward polarization, when the nation needs, some try, toward a meeting of the minds. , for the greater good! When Republicans seem to continue to support Trump’s version of the alternate reality and emphasize, obstruct, rather than serve, we all suffer!
Four. Electoral/political process/ system: We suffer when citizens do not believe in the viability, and value, of our electoral system, and the meaning, of our political process, and. especially politicians! An essential part of maintaining our form of democracy – republic, government – is assuring our citizens of its viability and value!
5. Public Health/Vaccines: In many ways, this terrible pandemic has been deadly and damaging to the health and well-being of our citizens, society, and the nation as a whole! When, the ex-president, minimized the danger and equated it with economic challenges, he created, due to public health, concerns, he harmed us! Many of those, who refuse to get vaccinated, threaten us all because that makes overcoming the pandemic and taking advantage of herd immunity worse! This is a continuation of the anti-mask philosophies/protests, we witnessed, at an earlier stage, the virus etc!
6. Safety/Sound Gun Controls: Some oppose any controls/limits on gun ownership/use, wrapping themselves around what they claim are their 2nd amendment rights! In fact, constitutional scholars and historians assert that part of the Constitution refers to the rights of a state to have and maintain its own state militia to protect itself against potential foreign threats. How many more must die before some sensible gun safety control is implemented? We register cars and driver’s licenses, but some want us to stop any attempts to limit gun ownership, in any way! Does anyone really believe that licensing, registering, and limiting certain types of weapons (such as assault weapons) violates rights? Shouldn’t public safety matter?
We have reached a stage where we continue to face internal threats to the American way of life! Will you ask, better?
