It seems that the Yoga Alliance has finally come to their senses and has approved online yoga teacher training for those who have been wanting to become a certified yoga instructor. What’s even more amazing is that they have done this in the midst of all of the recent negative publicity about this industry. Many Yoga instructors have lost their jobs due to the lack of certification, and even more have reported harassment from neighbors and even complete strangers who think they are doing something questionable. Finally, it’s important to understand that the training you receive from an online yoga teacher program will not provide you with certification when you complete it. A certificate is only provided when you take a certain test and pass it with a certain grade. That grade is usually earned by having an internship at a local studio or by doing an apprenticeship under someone who has been certified. Either way, it won’t be something that will mean anything without actual practice. So spend some time practicing as much as you can and you should find the online training to be worth the effort.
I would recommend checking out the Yoga Alliance website for their accredited training and if possible doing some research on the teacher training program they are offering to see if it meets all of the requirements of the Yoga Alliance.
