Top 10 mobile apps for parents

Many parents today, just like me, make use of modern technologies to help make the parenting process a little easier. For example, one of the most common tools used today are apps. Yes, applications that we can download directly to our mobile devices. I am always installing and uninstalling apps while trying to use the storage space on my cell phone and tablets for the apps that are most useful to me. So this weekend, while I was updating my apps and cleaning up the ones that were no longer working for me, I decided to compile this list of the 10 best parenting apps in no particular order. (Please note: I am an iPhone user, so not all of the apps mentioned may be available on Android.)

What to expect – Pregnancy and baby: I used this app while I was pregnant with my youngest daughter (she is now one year old). For those who are waiting, this app has a great guide complete with day by day and week by week photos and you will receive personalized updates based on your due date. I love that feature! It also gives you a chance to connect with other moms, which is nice.

Daily Parenting Reminder One Tip: This app sends one parenting tip to your phone as a calendar reminder every day, you don’t even have to open the app. I’m always looking for more parenting knowledge so this was great for me.

Baby Tracker & Digital Scrapbook – Kidfolio Pro – This app is truly one of my favorites. It allows you to track your baby’s health and development, from growth and immunizations to feedings, diaper changes, pumping sessions, and more. This app really helps keep everything you need to remember about your child organized. As a bonus, you’ll also receive information about developmental milestones. You can also capture certain milestones on camera and organize them in a scrapbook! This is simply a great app for tips and advice and to socialize with other parents. I’m lovin ‘it.

Yuggler Fun Activities for Kids and Families – This is a really great app for finding kids activities near you. This is great for active families and with the recent update they now have user created Main Charts for child activities. It is very convenient.

Animal Picture Cards and Tools for Babies and Toddlers by Open Solutions – This app does a great job of keeping my 1-year-old entertained and isn’t hard to navigate at all. This is also a great app to encourage speech in your toddler while helping them match a picture to the actual word. Your child can learn what sound an animal makes, the correct way to pronounce her name (in multiple languages), and even how to write it!

Learning Games for Preschool and Kindergarten by Kevin Bradford LLC – My 4 year old daughter really likes using this app, it keeps her busy on car rides and is very educational. These games focus on things like Counting, Alphabet, Addition, Subtraction, Spelling, etc.

Bipfun Baby Monitor Lite – This is a really cool baby monitor that is free to download. You can see AND talk to your baby through this app. It also offers different animal night lights on the screen to comfort your little one.

Cozi Family Organizer – Great way to combine the whole family’s calendars and keep track of scheduled activities and events. You can also share and update shopping lists and to-do lists, which is a really great feature. However, I’ll just let you know that there are no privacy settings in the app yet. Therefore, it would be best to only include reminders and things that you want the whole family to know.

Chorma for Chores – This is a very good app to get the whole household involved in assigning chores and also keeping track of chores that get undone. I no longer have the app because my daughters are too young to use it, but it’s great for families with older children.

Phone for Kids – All-in-One Activity Center for Kids – This app is a must have for me, as my 1 year old loves to play on my phone and pretend (well, sometimes he doesn’t pretend) to call people. She is in love with this app and so am I. You can pretend to text and talk on the phone and there are other fun little games built in as well.

These are just a few of my personal favourites. Feel free to share some of your own suggestions in the comments!
