Problems related to crepitation

Crepitus can be defined as an unexpected cracking sound that comes from under the skin or due to movement of the joints or somewhere around the lungs. Also, known as breaking joints, popping joints, or creaking joints, crepitus is a growing problem among people of all ages today.

Derived from a word meaning friction sounds, Crepitus can be classified into several types depending on the region and the cause.

Patellofemoral crepitus occurs when the structure of two very important bones in our body, the femur and the patella, which is the patella, is not normal. A disorder called patellofemoral syndrome or chondromalacia patella occurs when the friction between the trochlear groove of the femur and the patella is more than 20% of that between two ice cubes.

Crepitus can also occur in the knee joint when there is excessive extension or enlargement of the joint, which certainly means injury. Crepitus occurs in the neck when you have suffered severe soft tissue injuries or major surgeries. Usually there is no bone involved in neck crepitus, so the use of anti-inflammatory medications can easily cure the problem.

Shoulder crepitus generally occurs in people suffering from various osteo problems such as various types of arthritis, shoulder crepitus gives a painful experience when there is any movement in the shoulder.

Usually, a popping or cracking noise in the retropatellar knee crepitus is an indication of severe damage. The reason for such crepitation is the grinding of the two articular bones of the knee. It directly affects the posterior position of the patella.

Causes of crepitus

Crepitus is mainly due to recent changes in the joint, which may be surgery on sensitive tissues or some significant damage to the ligaments or bones. Also, serious joint problems, such as arthritis, can cause crepitus in various regions of the body. Crepitus is basically a symptom of a problem to be a problem, as it could indicate incessant damage or injury. It can also occur in the tissues of the human body when there is a significant amount of air present in them.

Crepitus treatment

In some cases, elastic supports help prevent further damage to the knee and relieve tension. Some people also find it effective to apply ice packs for 15 to 20 minutes after exercising. Sometimes the use of medications such as Advil, Aspirin, or Aleve can also help relieve pain and other bothersome symptoms.

Various ways can be taken to eliminate annoying noise. Mostly consisting of exercises, the adopted methods will not only improve the physical activity of the patient, but will also increase the movement of the joint. Things to avoid when treating knee crepitus are climbing stairs, doing aerobics, bending the knees, playing some outdoor sport like soccer, wearing high heels, etc.
