Learn to be your own health authority

Are you satisfied with your health program? If not, look at what I found in southwestern New Mexico.

Living Foods Learning Center is located approximately seven miles north of Columbus, NM. Columbus is sixty-five miles west of El Paso, TX and thirty-two miles south of Deming, NM.

Living Foods Learning Center is different. It’s a place you go to learn to live in harmony with nature, grow and prepare food that supports a healthy lifestyle, and learn to leave a light footprint on the Earth.

Shu Chan and Dwayne Madsen have spent a large part of their collective lives learning and teaching others what they practice in their own lives to achieve and maintain a healthy life.

Shu Chan worked directly with Dr. Ann Wigmore and was named her successor by Dr. Ann prior to her death in 1994. Shu has expanded on the theories and practices that she learned from Dr. Ann.

Dwayne Madsen has been involved in healthy living for more than half of his adult life. Dwayne is a lead designer, architect, and builder at Living Foods Learning Center and is also a class instructor.

Their mission statement says that they are there to help others to be their own healer and to learn a new and fulfilling way of life. It also says, “What you will experience can help you lead a more energetic, healthier, and happier life.”

When I was there, sprouts of all kinds were growing. One of their programs is learning how to grow healthy and delicious sprouts. Shu prepared meals that were not only delicious, but also attractive to the eye and beneficial to health. Healthy food preparation is another part of the programs they offer. All of their programs are detailed on their website which is linked in the resource box at the end of this article.

After lunch, Dwayne and I took a tour of their off-grid system. They have solar panels and backup generation systems. The entire operation is off-grid.

Living Foods Learning Center grows all food for your operation or purchases it from local and regional farmers. They practice organic farming standards and buy external products from organic producers.
