Euro-Pro TO251 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven Review

Euro-Pro is a brand known for creating a wide range of products that make life at home easier. I recently tested the Euro-Pro TO251 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven for eight weeks to get a good idea of the pros and cons. Here is my review:

This Euro-Pro toaster oven can be had for around $60, including shipping. With that in mind, I don’t expect it to measure up to the coveted high-end models available today. Straight out of the box, it’s easy to see that it’s adequately built for its price range, but it’s certainly not made from the sturdiest materials you can find. The construction in general is in line with its price. This toaster oven is equipped with dials instead of digital controls. It’s stainless steel and black, so it will probably fit in with most kitchen decor. It comes with a baking pan and a pizza pan. This model features an interior light, something that is missing from most other toaster ovens.

I started by reading the user manual and saw that a burn-in period is recommended. This involves running the kiln empty at a high temperature to burn off residue left over from production. This is commonly recommended with all toaster ovens. What surprised me was the amount of smoke and vapors emitted during the burning phase. Having reviewed many toaster ovens in the past, I am quite familiar with the process. Apparently this model had a lot more to burn than others I’ve tried. Had I known this, I would have completed this process outside or in my well ventilated garage. After a successful burn-in period, I never had a problem with fumes or strange smells again. During the burn, I noticed that there was little to no insulation on this toaster oven, causing the exterior to get exceptionally hot while in use.

On my first kitchen task: toast. This unit is listed as a 6 slice model, so that was 6 slices of whole grain bread. They wouldn’t fit together without overlapping, which would obviously affect the oven’s ability to toast the bread properly. Perhaps using a smaller loaf of bread would allow the slices to fit together better. The test was then resumed with 4 slices. I was not very impressed with the results. It took a long time for it to brown properly and by then it was completely dry. For the next eight weeks, I used the toaster oven for baking, but stuck with my old toaster for toast.

When cooking everyday items or reheating food, this Euro-Pro toaster oven does a great job. It is quite large; can accommodate a twelve inch pizza. I found that it is not powerful enough to properly brown food before drying, so after a few failed attempts I was reluctant to cook anything that needed browning. Overall, this oven can be good value for money, depending on what your needs are. If you want it primarily for stews or to reheat food, this may work for you. If you want the perfect toast or roast chicken quarter with an incredibly crispy skin and juicy interior, you may want to upgrade to a better model.
