Causes of sweaty feet: 4 culprits for your clammy, smelly feet

The causes of sweaty feet can be easily traced and therefore can be treated accordingly. Sweaty feet may be easier to mask behind wearing socks and shoes, but it would take more than that to fully address and resolve the issue.

I remember one occasion when I was shopping at the last minute for a pair of leather shoes for a friend’s wedding. It was after work hours and my feet were clearly worn and exhausted. When the shop assistant helped me while I tried on a new pair, it was clear that she was trying not to hold her nose from the bad smell emanating from my feet. Air-repellent shoes – It is important that our skin can breathe and our feet are no exception. When we wear shoes that do not allow air to pass through, sweat and bacteria are trapped, causing even more sweating and a bad smell. It’s best to alternate shoes so you can air dry other pairs when not in use. Also choose breathable materials for your shoes like leather and stay away from plastic or vinyl ones.

Chemical fiber socks – Nylon socks trap moisture instead of releasing it, so it is best to avoid buying them. Consider wearing socks made from moisture wicking materials where perspiration transfers from the foot to the outside of the shoe by passing through a porous sock material. Wool fiber stays relatively dry and allows skin to breathe exceptionally better than cotton.

Not cleaning your feet and between your toes well – Our feet are sometimes neglected so that they are cleaned really well. In addition to regularly trimming your toenails, it is also very common to forget to clean the spaces between your toes. Dirt and bacteria breed in the tight, cluttered spaces of the skin, so it is best to lather and rub between the toes and soles of the feet on a daily basis. You can also apply baking soda to keep them dry and odorless.

Of smoking – Smoking causes a loss of vitamin B that results in excessive perspiration. Since the nicotine in cigarettes can increase your heart rate and blood pressure, your body manages by sweating to cool it down. Gradually plan your way to quit smoking and you will soon notice an improvement in your health and sweating.
